About two years ago, I did the piping in a Historic Seattle building that was being retrofitted and changed into an upscale Hotel.
They had a underground bomb shelter that still had the old Civil Defense barrels and boxes in tact. I have two of the barrels in my garage now. It was pretty cool to open that space up to find the stash. The shelter had been totally forgotten for years. I know there are still many 'private' buildings in Washington that have shelters in addition to what is on this public list. You know for Tn they didn't list much, but Tn is a state that has some of the largest caves and the most in a single state something like 1000 caves or more In Tn. He'll there is one not far from my grandfathers off an old trail used by farmers and hunters. It's always a good thing to know extra places to take shelter because most likely these listed will fill up quickly with people who work in the area unless an attack happens at night then u might have a slim chance if u live close enough. But even then I wouldn't chance going out right away hell dig a hole in your back yard and get in. Idk some of y'all seen the pic I took of my pup and seen the railroad ties I have in my back yard I have three levels each level is about 3 feet wide before it goes another 3 feet high. I've thought about making a bunker by digging under the first level to the third and would be hidden by the railroad ties. Could rig up a hinge system of some sort to work as a vault door wood look on the outside steel on the inside for the protection. I think I had read for nuclear protection u need 2 feet of dirt and it was about 1/2 steel. I would create my inside walls out of recycled railroad ties made out of the plastic. Would never need replacement could make an 8x8 room. Again this is just one of many fall out ideas I have and I have a ton written down some on PDF and some on paper. My 250gb portable hard drive I got from radio shack is almost full of PDF files videos I'd scans debit card scans, passport scan, phone numbers. Medication I take the correct spelling and generic names I can never spell half of them haha :) even a few movies. Major Payne Zombie land. And tv show walking dead (can't wait for season 2 to start next month) but I forget where I read the thickness of materials needed to be for biological protection I know it was on a PDF file. I listed everything from brick wood dirt steel and other material. One PDF I haven't seen or found. Is how to dig and build underground bunkers if anyone has a PDF on that please link. I have a general idea on how to go about getting started just not sure about the mid way and almost complete portions and to keep from the earth above from caving in on me. I would assume u work your way in and place beams along the wall and your ceiling as you go but I would think there is more to it than that.
