Even though some of the ideas won't work for everyone, it's still a GREAT topic. It will pay to sit down, no matter where you are located, and go through this excersize!
We had a great talk about it this weeknd, though we knew we would knock down some trees, we went over trails into the area and found places that were much better than others to block. Fine tuning, but still very useful.

Multiple staggerd rows of sharp pointed rebar pounded into the asphalt 8"-10"apart,and sticking out 8"will not only protect against rubber tires, but will also stop tracked vehicles by busting the tracks. With the addition of jersey barriers on either side of a 10' wide path of these spikes, even an M-1Abrahm's would have problems passing.

Redneck stop sticks can be made out of old shell casings, and some flat washers, drilled plywood, rubber mat,or even pressed onto carpet.
First you take a punch or nail, and with a hammer drive out the primer.
Now take a grinder, and grind the neck of the casing to where it has a sharp point.
Once all that is done, you press the casing into a flat washer untill it's just above the extractor ridge.
When these are tossed in front of a vehicle they will usually land pointed side up,and washer side down.
These will make an instant flat.
The casing acts like a leather punch, with the primer hole acting as an exit hole for the air.

These can also be pressed into pre drilled plywood for a semi permanent set up,or pressed into rubber matting,or carpet for a roll out design similar to what the cops use.

It would be a bit more time consuming to make but it would be much more effective.

An interesting idea gp, that very well could work. A couple more to consider, the old "simplex square metal head" roofing nails which was what they used for nailing felt paper before the advent of the new plastic cap nails for that purpose. Another is make your own caltrops from 12d bright common nails, bend the nails to a 90 degree angle then tack weld them together then take a pair of small bolt cutters or large linemens pliers and cut the heads off on an angle to the shank. These can be deployed easily and quickly and then when the threat is passed picked-up just as quickly with a fair sized magnet. There are lots of ways to help yourself if you want to, and some are fairly inexpensive.

What I like about GPs idea is the immediate deflation of the tire. I'd still use barn spikes and 1x6s quick and easy, several 7.62x39 will deflate a tire real quick anyway.

The stop sticks the cops use are just sharpened metal tube's.
Take the design of my redneck stop sticks, and press them into the links of a chain.
It would make them easy to deploy, and very likely trash the oil pan, drive shaft, axle's,or break lines as the tires sling it around under the vehicle. It would also probably wrap around an axle, and lock it up.
