I have came to the conclusion the Chevy/Geo Tracker would be a great bug out vehicle especially if you can find a 4 door. Their small which makes them great on gas I think I get around 30mpg in mine. Their pretty tough for what it is, they can go through some terrain for such a small 4x4, and their cheap.
If you YouTube Geo or chevy tracker you'll find some videos of them going through mud, up hills, etc.

Personally, I'd buy a go-cart before Id buy one of them.

Being in the auto repair business, i would absolutely not purchase one of these to rely on. Parts are getting hard to find, some parts are not made any more. If you do have your heart set on one though, get one with a hard top. The soft tops can be cut right through.

After driving my tracker for a few weeks and having to buy parts for it, I"m gonna have to agree these things are not worth buying! It took two weeks to get parts for it, and they were expensive. I"ll getting rid of it soon to buy something different maybe a bronco 2. |

Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Wrangler.
TJ, TJ, TJ, TJ. The parts are cheap and can be found EVERYWHERE. They just go and go and go. A jeep with moderate tires and no overboard accessories looks like a regular vehicle and they go EVERYWHERE. Mine has an aluminum plate covering the cargo area behind the rear seat that is like a locked trunk and it holds a survival kit and food and straps and gear. Its secure and as a convertible its even fun. 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0 6 cyl with 31" m/s tires. That's my baby. |

I was seduced by the tracker until the transmission went out. After shelling out a grand for that to be rebuilt, the computer went out. I didnt have another grand to replace that so I sold it to the junk man. I am just glad I didnt waste the time and money I had planned on investing into a camo paint job. Good advice regarding the hard top. I had the soft top and came out of a movie once to find a nice knife slash in the back in of mine. Of course I sewed it up with a upholstery needle but it looked like hell, lol. Unless you already have one, I would stay away from the tracker. Wasn't there a import copy? Maybe that one is better. I want to say Isuzu or something but I am not sure.

Just a suggestion but try thinking out of the box for your bug out vehicle. Look into a M35-2 DUCE & A 1/2 6X6. Diesel powered, will go anywhere, haul everything and are not that expensive.

I have to agree on the Deuce. By far the best and the most fun truck I have ever driven. We made many a new trails with those when I served. Plus they can run on different fuels so you don't have to be limited by gas or diesel only.

Now what about the Pinzgauer? I don't know anything about availability/parts availability or anything like that, but it seems to be a decent, reliable vehicle that will go pretty much anywhere, and has room for a good amount of gear and/or people.
