im tore between 2 bov's i want, one is a full size bronco 4x4 5 speed wit a 302 engine.
the other is a 3/4 ton ford quad cab 4x4 diesel
i have owned both in the past and both bovs have there pro's and cons. and i was wondering what does everyone think??
now i was watching a documentry about shtf a few yrs ago and i know everyone will hord gas in a shft. The documentry did mention diesels,
it was said that only 10% of vechiles are diesel and there will be some diesel left at gas stations. and that you can make diesel with a few ingredients.
so i would like to know what everyone thinks?
wich bov to choose

That's an easy pick. The 3/4 ton Ford quad cab 4x4 diesel would be my pick IF it had an Automatic. If you had to shoot and shift at the same time, it's probably not going to work out to good for you in a SHTF scenaro. Plus diesels can run on alternate fuels. Easy pick IMO........... Easy choice...Diesel. Learn how to make you own biodiesel and you're good to go.

My brother-in-law has 3 95-97 F-350 Powerstrokes. They're pretty good reliability wise except he had to replace intake gaskets on 2 of them (around 100k miles) and he's had transmission problems on all three(automatics). One had to have a total rebuild at 130k miles (over $3k) and the other 2 were minor, but costly (in my book). He does plow a few accounts with them so that doesn't help reliablity wise. Overall, there good trucks and if I had a choice between the Bronco and the Powerstroke, well the Powerstroke would be in my driveway. Inspect the truck for extensive rust, ask about any repairs and replaced parts and check to see if the trans is "ok". The tranny should shift nice without to much lag between gears. Good luck!

Short Wheelbase is Much More Useful in Off-road application. Diesel is Much More Survival Friendly. Manual Tranny is better in Survival apps. Pick-Up is More useful IMHO.
Ideal for me would be Mechanical Injection, Manual Tranny, ShortBed 3/4 ton suspension, 4X4 Jacked Up and with Bigger (High Clearance) Tires, with Manual Lock-up on Front and Rear Diffs, AND THE TRANSFER CASE DIFF, with Low, Low ratio (High Numeric) in Diffs, with Crawler First Gear Ratio. But, that is just my wish list. What I have is a Fullsize Blazer with Option (Slightly taller/wider) Tires, Automatic Trans and Electronic Injection, with Only Rear Locker Diff . Half a Loaf is better than None, I guess! I don't have the money to get up my dream rig - I am spending all my Discretionary monies on Chicken Coops, Raised Bed Gardens, Medical and Home Defense Preps..... +1 on the Powerstrokes. If you're thinking IDI, you either have to keep an eye out on cavitation issues with the 7.3IDI block or with the 6.9IDI it's not really an issue.

I love the Ford Powerstrokes...I work on them quite often.
Seriously, the biggest issue with them are folks trying to soup them up with aftermarket chips. Usually, they get more power and shorter FICA and injector life. Keep it stock (oversized exhaust is ok) and keep up on the oil and filter changes and they aren't too bad. Get the engine up to operating temp - avoid short trips like the plague! But back to your original question - Bronco or truck...if you intend to be off-roading, the Bronco has an edge, except for the stick. If you have a large family and intend on mostly road travel, then the oceanliner would be better...unless it's got the 6.0L and over 90k on the clock. That's sort of a financial timebomb wait to go off. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail - Franklin (paraphrased)

would definately go with the diesel, I personally would choose a cummins diesel but thats my choice in diesels.
the weight of the engine could be seen as a pro or con: Pro: would be it adds momentum for blowing through roadblocks or fences as long as you have reinforced the truck to handle the impact. Con: it would hinder you in some situations, they sink fast in mud if it is too deep to hit something solid. “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."
