If the frame is solid(BIG problem on those trucks), you'll never ask for a better truck(other than perhaps an old ford with a 300 I-6). Get a spare timing chain set(with tensioner and guides), and if you don't know how already, find someone to teach you how to adjust the valves. The 22re has solid lifters, and there's a periodic clearance adjustment that needs to be performed. If I recall, the intake and exhaust valves both set at .012", but don't quote me on it. It isn't a difficult procedure, but requires a set of feeler gauges. Instructions are in the chilton/haynes manuals as well. Had the frame not broken in the 7th place on my '93, I would still be driving it.
BTW, they sell aftermarket timing chain guides that are steel-backed(as opposed to the parts-store plastic variety). This will prevent the breakage that led me to mention the timing set in the first place. Look for them sold as performance parts for a celica...some of the older ones used the same engine.

I'll keep my Freedom, Guns and my Constitution, you keep the change.
Blind faith in ignorant leaders is NOT Patriotism. 1918 In the Wasatch National Forest of Utah, 504 sheep were killed by a single bolt of lightning. Sheep huddle in storms and the lightning bolt passed from one animal to another. |

What kind of prep do you have to do to the body before putting this on? I plan on doing something similar to my BOV but it has some rust and all that on it already
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."
