I searched for Bug Out Bag (BOB)'s and saw of nice selctions, however to question convention, I have a normal BOB. However I bought a 4 wheel drive truck just in case we have to flee, I installed a tool box with a secondary lock. Instead of just relying on what is in my BOB, I was thinking of stocking the tool box with BOB equipment, typically more ammunition, fishing equipment, MRE's etc.
Is there a reason that anyone can see which would make this bug out toolbox a poor ideal? Just looking for outside the box ideals or reason not to use them.
A different type of BOB

Right after I posted this I saw the Bug Out Vehical (BOV) I have not read it yet so this may have been addressed already. Please move this to the BOV section.
Thank you, |

I have a pickup also, I carry my primary BOB in the backseat and some misc gear like tent, etc in the tool box. The reason for this is I have 1 way into town, that's it. If I'm on the way there or back and there's a roadblock I can park the truck, grab the bag and get home on foot. I know the topo maps by heart between town and my house and if I have everything in the box I'm screwed. It'd have to unload it and then take off which allows time to be murdered and robbed by the gov't thugs.

I never thought about not being able to take the truck. Thank you for another thing to think about.

My planning consists primarily of being able to bug in. I'm quite remote so theoretically it would take awhile for any violence or brown shirt to reach me. If I have to leave the house I have a pack set up for foot travel with the necessities in it then I have all my tubs labeled so I could come back and transport them away via ATV. When the SHTF I have no intention of trying to take the truck and head somewhere unless there is the immediate threat of an occupation near my home and I have time and I can load up and get onto the old turn of the century logging/mining roads to get up to timberline. Once up there the only way for someone to get to me is by air because I will be destroying the road as I go over it. I can guarantee by me living at altitude there aren't very many gov't thugs that could keep up because of the lack of O2 so the higher I can get the safer I will be.

I carry this in my truck tool box at all times.
www.shtfm.com/bob-bug-out-bags/sm ... cook%20kit So no i think you converting a tool box into a good BOTB (Bug Out Tool Box) is a great idea. And since i carry so much in my truck I have actually thought about getting a seperate tool box JUST FOR a BOTB. RIGHT here on SHTFM.com We have invented the BOTB Copyright 2010 SHTFM.com ![]() I am making a section right now JUST for BOTB

That's similar to what I carry in my box, everything is expendable and I could easily survive without it. The food, fire starters, ammo, space blanket, water purifier, etc are in the backpack so they can leave quickly.

I'm gonna be starting a box for the back of my truck soon, it'll have more storage than I'll ever need, I just want it so I don't have to have all that stuff in the cab (standard) with me, it'll still be packed in it's pack, it'' just be out of the way. Whatever voids are left I'll prob use for storage for water, motor, tranny, and diff oil, tools, etc. My big axe will be mounted on the inside of the side of the bed(done this before, works great, and on the other side my high lift jack will be done the same way.
Good luck, Lost |

Good idea on the box in tthe back of your truck - and as stated filling it wih expendabble items.
I like the idea of the "kittty litter" box as well. Most people would probally disregard it. Take care all - Rourke |
