Excellent Article and well written. Most everyone I talk to want to bug out. I ask them. Where? To the country, mountains and the west. I then start asking them about food prep, ordance, clothing, gas, shelter, people or friends you can count on and it goes on and on at the place your going. They look at you like you have a third eye. One doesn't want to Bug Out if he still maintains a mortage, house payments, car payments and other payments he has incurred. How many small communities, cities, villages, towns and cities will one have to pass thru to get to his desired destination. Bugging Out takes months and sometimes years of planning as in James Wesley Raules book "The Patriot". Just because one has a bug out bag doesn't mean he will be gone for years. As the Survival Mom states, when the SHTF or as the world as we know it the family will not be going back to where he had his home. Be prepared to work and more than likely be forced back into the early 1900's wayi of life.

We want the refugees to have their own food, clothing, etc. But what about after the stored food runs out? I'd suggest they provide a LOT of seed for the next year's gardens. Perhaps several yrs. 2 yrs worth of garden is a small rent for sanctuary. imo

I read this when it was posted, and have re-read it.. but what if you do not know someone to serve as a host? The person where I go to the range has 10 acres, lots of security, and large house, and lives alone.. and lots of guns.. very smart man too.. However, he is over an hour's drive away and I am sure he would have his family go there if something happens..Maybe next time I see him, I can bring up the subject of SHFT and see how he feels about being alone or wanting other people there.. We certainly would have alot to offer, as well as food & supplies, meds, my husbands skills in electrical and all things mechanical would be valuable.. Ah.. thinking thinking.. Very well written and very informative. It's really valuable to have the POV of a country dweller.
