While we have all this great technology you really should put it to work for you.
What i have done is used a google earth or maps and plotted out what and where i would need in the event something happened.
Here are some things i really do not like to post but hey info is info.
Locate all county solar panels and batteries close by.
Locate all (I MEAN ALL) possible water sources (rivers, lakes, streams, etc.)
Locate all FUEL depots like county and or state.
Since you are a step ahead of the game plan on the luxury things you would take from a store close by while people are in a panic getting food and water you can have the luxury of getting fishing , gas cans, tools, and other stupid things that they would not be thinking about in a panic.
After you are done with your map you can print it out and delete all the map stuff or you can keep it, the choice is yours.
Some things we have done

As I drive around from place to place in my daily life I am always looking for these types of things you have mentioned but never thought to make a map to go with it. Excellent idea! Thank You. I would like to add I have spotted the swimming pools in the neighborhood for water. That is of course if they have abandoned those places. I have no inclination to rob anyone, enter anyone's home, or destroy anyone's property, but if they have abandoned their property, I will not hesitate to use that water or plants they leave behind (acorns from their trees, mesquite beans, fruits etc.). |

Correct like i said i do not tell everything that i do but to give you an idea what you stated is also great too you need to pay attention to EATABLE plants and mark those on the list also. the pools would be located in your water sources. This should give you a general idea and make you AWARE of your surroundings. ALWAYS think outside the box if your not then your still not AWARE Click Here For Google Search Of SHTFM.COM

Brilliant idea Johnny. A printout of areas along your main and backup escape routes showing all those features would be much more informative, (and accurate), than a road map or atlas.
I was talking to Chi about making a log book for my future trips so that I could record information that would be useful, and I think using such maps along with the book would be very useful. Rather than write on the maps, you could make an overlay of acetate with a grid system marked on it, and record the position of various facilities or resources as a grid reference. For security, keep the maps and the book separate. As an aditional aid to security, don't mark your overlay with the standard method of grids, (Alphabet along the top and bottom, and sequential numbers down the sides), but substitute a name or a couple of keywords along the top and bottom, and use random numbers down the sides - or perhaps use a couple of dates you won't forget. Each letter or number can only be used once, naturally. You could also use letters or numbers alone, (letter/letter or number/number provided that you always used them in the same way, say, first across and second down.) When in doubt, apply rule ·223 or ·308 -- unless you have a more preferred calibre.

In our area there are simply thousands and thousands of natural gas wells, and on each pad there are at least one small building that has the equipment to separate what comes out of the ground to tanks or pipeline. Each of these building has a minimum of 1 solar panel, some pads having up to 25 panels. If and when SHTF, lots of availability!

Also MM if ya pay careful attention, a good arkansas travel card will yeild and abundance of gas for the car. Although not the preium grade fuel it will burn but knocks if ya step on the gas too hard. Known as CASION HEAD GAS. Nature has a way of seperating the fuel from the oil. I should know I burnt numerous gallons in my dads car. North Louisiana has many wells with CASION HEAD GAS. Do believe the owners are aware and watching --- but in a SHTF situation, Who Cares

I have a book of outdoor recreation maps for the entire state. It locates all wildlife management areas, reserves, county and state parks, lakes, streams and marshes, campgrounds, and probably more info than I can recall. I'm sure there's something similar for where you live. Thanks for the ideas.

don't forget grocery warehouses, processed food companies (potato chip plants and the like), customs terminals, rail yards (all those containers have to have some good stuff in them), tractor-trailers on the highway, etc. lots of good places to get stuff after the balloon goes up.

Lately school zone flashing lights around here have had new LED replacements.
With that smaller need for power, each sign has a solar array(small), and a storage battery. Presumably a charge controller too. Look closely at google maps along your route, every known stream and open water, (pond or lake) whether named or not is in blue. “ Ever sift sand through a screen? ... This!
This is an excellent Idea! I've already added it to my to-do list. This falls under the the "when it's time to go tactical, it's good to have a plan" category. Very Excited.
