Have a bug out location in mind, its big with 90% fenced, lots of trees and open land, I need some ideas too keep us safe during a shtf, and I dont want to set up any thing now just because I dont go there that often and dont want someone to stumble upon it and mess with my defense.... So what are some portable gadgets I can make and store now but set up when the shtf?

Are you talking about primitive camp or isolated buildings?.....String and soup cans with pebbles. Dogs. Dropped trees (TY HP). Tangle foot wire. Homemade spike strips. Good (armed) neighbors. Funneled approaches with foot spike traps.

Couldn't think of anything unless you're on a federal budget. I had planned to put in some elevated LP/OP's especially in trees, and post people. Dogs is the other thing. If you are fenced, get some Dobermans, or German shepherds and train them to patrol sectors. Dogs are invaluable for security. Trip wires rigged to fire a flare gun can also be a good early warning system.

Might purchase a few deer stands that go in trees for use later as OP/LP and some old military land line type field phones.

Good one wulf, I was just thinking treehouse, but a tree stand will suffice, and can be moved for better positioning if need be.

Another thing I've been thinking of lately is the use of dummies. Armies have used decoys for a very long time to confuse enemy intelligence and recon. Giving the idea that your numbers are larger than they are would be a good deterrent. No need for anything fancy, blow up dolls with clothes on would do the trick if positioned in a way that someone couldn't get a very good look at them. Better yet, you could put a ski mask on them, or some other means of hiding a close look at what it is. As realistic as possible I mean.

Placing spikes just inside the perimeter, close enough to be mixed in with the foliage there would keep folks from trying to breach your fence line. It'd be tedious work to do that, but some stout spikes pushing up through an attackers boots will definitely let you know someone is trying to breach your security. Any brick or stone walls you may have should be peppered with broken glass set into a bit of mortar at the top. If someone tries to jump the wall, they will cut their hands or other body parts as they go over.

A ditch along fence line, just inside your spikes, along where your property faces a road, 4' wide and 3-4' deep will stop most vehicles. These can be camouflaged by laying branches across, putting a layer of dirt on, and letting vegetation grow on top. So another trap not easily seen.

IF you can get hold of some jersey barriers you could funnel traffic through switchbacks, and if you place a tower with overwatch you will have complete control of your main entrance road, along with a sturdy gate. If not jersey barriers, there are other materials that will suffice. Logs will do the trick.

Game cameras.... Place them along natural routes of approach IE: line of least resistance. Consider terrain and whether you would mind walking or running up it to make an assault. Chances are anybody coming to attack you will also come from those areas. Game Cameras could capture images of anyone trying to mess around along those places. Sure, you'll have to check them, but you'll have a time stamp, date, and a look at what they look like. There are others as well you could set up outside the perimeter that are a trip wire that when pulled marks the date/time. My dad used to use these when scouting for hunting. I don't think they are expensive, and don't know if the are still around.

Just some ideas.
