War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

HiPoint 9mm carbine. Very fun to shoot.

After reading your post I search out the 995. The price seems right.
One question I have is, have you found any mags with more than a 10 round capacity ?
A 30 round mag would make it a sweet weapon......Dennis

I've wondered the same, Dennis. The only thing that's kept me from getting one is that I can't find any hicap mags.

I have to go to town this afternoon. Our one and only gun shop sells Hipoint products. I'll see if they have a line on hicap mags.
Their pretty good about things like that.....Dennis

PS here's a 15 round mag I found online.

Will still check downtown.....

Went by the gun shop in town. Said they'd get back to me .
Have heard pro's and con's on the 15 round mags.
Got a buddy here thats a good machinist, probably wouldn't have any trouble making 30 round mags.

It is a nice little weapon. The only real drawback is the mag capacity. From what I hear the promag ones rarely if ever work properly without doing some mods to them. But it comes with three mags outa the box and new ones are only $17 with shipping from hipoint. www.hi-pointfirearms.net If your machinist buddy can whip up some bigger one throw me a line cause that would be awesome.

The way I look at it:
1. they are a fun gun to shoot
2. its an inexpensive pistol caliber, so I can shoot a lot and not have to start stocking a new caliber.
3. my wife isnt that into preparedness but she is starting to enjoy shooting. She shoots my 9mm pistols very well including my HiPoint C9, so she knows how to load the mags and operate the actions.
4. I keep it in my truck, I carry a 9mm and extra ammo. SHTF when I'm away from home, I have something for a little longer distance. For BO purposes, it goes to the wife: its light and she knows how to use it.

number 1 is why I really bought it. the others are just justification.

i thought long and hard about a 9mm carbine for the BOB (both the sub2000 from kel-tec as well as the hi-point). the thing i could never get around was the lack of effective range. i can bust clay pigeons at 50 yards all day long with my 1911 so having a carbine effective (against men) to only 75 yards was a serious problem to me.

i finally settled on a rossi single shot, break action rifle chambered in .30-06. they come with iron sights and weigh in at 5 lbs (about the same as the 9mm's) but are effective to 600+ yards. a bug out is not combat and i'll have the pistol for immediate defensive use so my BOB rifle will primarily be used for survival hunting. to that end i will be getting a chamber insert for .30 carbine (inserts allow you to chamber smaller cartridges while utilizing the guns rifling) for light game hunting.
