I'd go with canned goods and perhaps some freeze dried foods @ the office. Use what you stock and keep the canned goods rotated regularly. Most foods are cheaper when purchased in bulk, so even if the company won't pony up the funds, if everyone in the office contributed $20 towards the purchase every month you should be able to have a well provisioned office without a great deal of expense on anyone person, IF you have enough time. Whether the company or employees are paying for it will need to be used and kept rotated. Have a company wide lunch day every other month, once a quarter or however it works out. Everyone needs to already be used to eating the food that's been stocked before an emergency. Many people simply won't eat foods that they aren't used to under stress, even if not eating them means they'll starve to death.

PM, you mentioned the G19c above, do you mean the compensated model? If so I wanted to toss a word of caution your way. Contractors I know have tried this configuration and have since rejected any compensated handguns for defense. When you draw the compensated weapon and fire from retention which you likely will have to do in the event you are charged, the compensator spits hot gas, flames, and debris up into your face and onto your clothes and body, resulting in temporary vision problems, burns, breathing problems, and even with certain clothing you can catch on fire. All of those are a bad day in a gunfight, and while there is a risk of this firing from retention anyway, most of the time your barrel is clear of your body upon firing...... you hope. No such assurances with a compensator. I just wanted to toss that out there since your wife will kill you if you come home dead, just like mine. And we're pals, so I don't want anyone killing you unless I can tape it, and then kill them back.

Nah, I had meant compact. Glock 23 is in the same caliber as my G22 and would also be fine for conceal carry. The G22 prints too much, larger frame.

Van,
There are lots of questions you should ask... as the answers will dictate what you carry. There are lots of different takes on EDC or GHB's(Get Home bags). Some say it should be a small bag that weighs next to nothing while others swear a 20lb bag is kosher. I don't know if there is a perfect EDC bag but it should be 'perfect' for you based on your needs assessment. There are some common ingredients that I believe should be in every bag. I'll include those along with my list below. A definition I read somewhere but can't recall says that "These items shouldn't weigh more than 15-20 lbs - Intended to be taken to work based on threats likely to be encountered during work to get you to your main Bug Out Bag (BOB). Keep in mind 'SAWC' - Size and Weight Constraints. You have to choose your ideal size/weight." There is a great post on a YouTube channel AnalyticalSurvival(Green Beret) regarding his EDC which deserves mentioning. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/user/AnalyticalSurvival?blend=1&ob=0#p/u/15/pwEywNY_QyA This channel provides a lot of great info and it is presented in a manner that anyone of us can digest. Anyways, here is my list of goodies....along with my 'Categories' Storage - Bag - Maxpedition Mongo Versipack - You can't go wrong with Maxpedition. They make awesome bags. They are a little pricy but are so versatile and you can beat the snot out of them. Storage - Pelican 1010 Case for First Aid Kit - Waterproof and as I carry an N95 respirator I don't want it damaged. Storage - Tube Vaults - Frankly I like these as they are nice little organizers that are crush proof. I keep everything from repair kits (sewing kits, safety pins etc) to fire starters, and batteries in them. Binding - Zip Ties - earth toneBinding - Tape (Duct/Gorilla/100mph) - I wrap this around my tube vaults as I don't want an entire roll but I want an easy way of pulling off lengths of tape at will. Another good idea is a plastic card such as a gift card. These are great for wrapping tape around. Binding - 550 ParacordBinding - wire Clothes - work glovesClothes - balaclava Clothes - bandana Clothes - Hotties Hand and Toe Warmers Clothes - Poncho Eyewear - Sunglasses Comm Pack - Small Radio (AM/FM/SW). Some include 2-way FRS/GRMS radios. Comm Pack - Small Whistle Comm Pack - Signal Mirror Comm Pack - Writing Instruments. I have an Uzi Defender Tactical Pen which serves as a nice 'compliance' tool in a pinch. I have a couple sharpies, mechanical pencils as well. Comm Pack - Paper/Notebook. I have Write as Rain writing pad. Defense Pack - Pepper Spray Defense Pack - Sidearm. Sadly I live in the Peoples Republic of California and this ain't allowed. A good .45 with 2 magazines will do I would guess. Entertainment(Knowledge/Grounding) Pack - MP3 Player. There's nothing like relaxing to Rachmaninov. Entertainment(Knowledge/Grounding) Pack - SAS Pocket Survival Guide Entertainment(Knowledge/Grounding) Pack - Bible - New Testament Entertainment(Knowledge/Grounding) Pack - Camera. This is great for documenting, diaries etc. Food Pack Really depends on you. I've seen everything from Mountain House Food to MREs but I'd keep it light. Snack/energy/Clif Bars, Trail Mix, Jerky, Hard Candy Fuel Pack - Lighter. I have a coleman Torch but any Bic Lighter will do. Fuel Pack - Swedish Steel. I have both this and the nanostryker along with some of that quick start tinder stuff. Hygiene Pack - TP. I have a tube of the Charmin Travel size paper. Hygiene Pack - TP. Hand Sanitizer Information Pack - Flash Drive. Just like my BOB, I keep a copy of everything on a Kingston 256bit encrypted flash drive. Lighting/Power Pack - Batteries for Comm/Lighting Pack. Includes radios, cell phones, camera, flashlights. Hopefully you are aligning items where possible so you don't have to carry multiple types of batteries. Lighting/Power Pack - Flashlight. I have a surefire but Fenix and Streamlight are also solid picks. I would recommend something that has RGB filter options. Lighting/Power Pack - Headlamp. Lot's of options here....I like Petzl. Again, RGB filters are key. Medical Pack - First Aid Kit. In a pelican case. I include things like Advil, Salonpas, Bandaids, Gauze, Tape, Burn Gel Pads, Moleskin, Berts Beez, Neosporin, Nitril Gloves, Sunblock, wet ones, N95 mask and quick clot for good measure. Medical Pack - Adventure Medical Kits Space Blanket/Bivvy. Miscellaneous Pack - Carabiner. Grimlock D-Ring Miscellaneous Pack - WD40 Pen. Can't go wrong with the WD40. Miscellaneous Pack - Trash Bag. 3Mil Miscellaneous Pack - Heavy Duty Foil. Miscellaneous Pack - Ear Plugs. Navigation Pack - Laminated Map of your area. Ensure key routes/alternatives are noted. Navigation Pack - Compass. Navigation Pack - GPS. Optics Pack - Binoculars. I am partial to Steiner but there are some other great brands out there. Repair Kit -Sewing Kit Tool Kit - Multitool. Leatherman SOG and Gerber are solid picks. Tool Kit - Fixed Blade Knife. Tool Kit - Lock Picking set. Tool Kit - Folding Blade Knife. Tool Kit - Scissors(Foldable). Tool Kit - Magnifying Glass. Tool Kit - Tweezers. Tool Kit - Toenail Clippers. Tool Kit - Small Prypar. Great options include the Stanley Wonderbar/Prybar, Widgy Bar Tool Kit - Allen Wrench Set. Tool Kit - Sharpener. GatGo/Lansky Sharpening...lot of decent options here. Water Pack - Storage. 32oz Nalgene Bottles are a top pick here. Water Pack - Purifier. Steripin, polar pure, Katadyn, Iodine etc. Water Pack - Powders. Let's face it, a little instant coffee, lemonade, electrolyte relplacement powder etc is more enjoyable than water. Hopefully this helps a bit. Again these aren't must haves but at least it gets you thinking. Peace and Semper Fi! |
