If you wear eyeglasses don't forget to have extras in your BOB, also tools for adjustment and repair. Eyeglasses are available cheap online so there is no need to spend hundreds for eyeglasses.

My father gets his from the dollar store. He ended up breaking 2-3 pairs a year of his old prescription and it was getting expensive so he buys 10-12 pairs of the cheap, non-prescription, magniying-type glasses. Even if he breaks all of them he's only out about 10 or 12 bucks. They probably aren't ideal and I think they only work as reading glasses but, they might do in a pinch. As PhunkyMunky says, Lasik is the way to go if you can.
There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence.

when i got mine done i insisted they enhance my far vision even at the sacrifice of my close vision. as a result, past 10 yards my vision is 20/10 and i can see far better than i ever could with glasses at long range (500 yards+). i've also found that, if i don't use the reading glasses unless absolutely necessary i can get my eyes to focus reasonably well at close range also, enough to see the sights sharply on my rifles and pistols. it is for that reason that i don't use them while typing or reading the computer, even though i occasionally make a mistake or typo because of it.

When the SHTF, and you lose or break your glasses, or even if you just need a very sharp view of something, there is a Ploy you can use:
Get to the brightest light you have available, and using a Needle or knife point, push just through the thinnest Opaque material you can find, just a Tiny Pinhole. Look through the pinhole, and VOILA! everything will be in focus. The thinner the opaque material, and the smaller the hole, the sharper the view will be, right up to the point where not enough light is reaching your eye. An alternate use of this "Ploy" is to make a "Camera Obscura" by putting a pinhole through an Opaque wall, and watching on the opposite wall of the room, with all other windows or openings closed so the room is in relative darkness. The pinhole works like a lens, and projects an upside down and reversed right to left image on the opposite wall. Try either of these! Great for surveillance uses! +1Christian4Israel
