  • Recycle And Re-use
Recycle means to process old, used items in order that the material can be used to make new products. Examples of things that are often recycled are glass, plastic, newspapers, aluminum cans, used motor oil, and batteries. Here, reduce refers to lessening the amount of items or resources that are consumed, using only the amount that is needed, and looking for alternatives that will lessen our use. And reuse means extending the 'life' or repurposing an item rather than discarding or throwing it away.

Classifieds? by AvonCTStyle on Mon May 14, 2012 2:29 pm
As I take more of a look around I just discovered the Category of Classifieds

Does that mean that we can post here items that we'd like to Sell or Trade &/Or the Items which we're looking for?

I do not want to post anything that we're not supposed to & why I'm asking so that I do not break any rules.

I do sell Avon Products & have some stock on hand that I'd like to sell to anyone in the local CT area if we're allowed to post items for sale in our blogs

Thanks for any feedback by the moderators so I can know if this is ok :new:

Good Boots by Blueflame4 on Thu May 10, 2012 9:38 am
I was pretty disappointed that the weather called for rain not only on my birthday but the only day off I've had in almost 3 months. I'd had my heart set on going hiking, so I was thrilled when I woke up and instead of the torrential downpour we were promised (which we're getting today btw lol) it was only overcast and a bit foggy. So, my husband and I grabbed our BOBs and headed to the park to try out some of the longer, harder trails. Phone apps are great, but in this case the info provided was no where near accurate. Instead of the actual description of an "advanced trail that takes you through a gorge between two mountains over rocks and cascading water" we got "a moderate trail with a slight but steady incline following a calm stream leading to the summit". Not that big a deal, physically we are both fit enough to this trail. However, the recent rain had obviously swollen the brook and the path crisscrossed over it several times, using stepping stones that...

Prepping = Creativity & Reality by AvonCTStyle on Wed May 09, 2012 9:21 am
Being short on cash isn't a reason not to prep.
Yeah having cash would be great to buy all the fun "prepping toys" or a huge 1 yr for our family in Freeze Dried/Dehydrated Foods...
But buying all the fun toys & fancy foods or even the dream kitchen helpers is on the wish list for now

So with us needing a decent running car
(got 2 cars that are in various degrees of needing repairs 1 not running 1 can be heard coming down the street)
Money is more than a bit tight at the moment
So how am I prepping when Hubby isn't on board & doesn't know much in the way of DIY?

Simply doing the buy 1 extra when it comes to the regular groceries & personal care items.
Buying things on sale with coupons is a great help but I've just not been able to get organized enough to be able to do like they do on tv.

I am of course specializing in the used stores
Trying to find items that are manual but the ever elusive used All American Pressure Canner just hasn't yet been found in my hunting....

Hiking by Blueflame4 on Mon May 07, 2012 11:51 am
I've always loved the outdoors; spent most of my time when I was little playing in a large field behind my grandparents home looking for field mice, voles, and garter snakes. There were some great climbing trees around the field too, and my cousins and I spent countless summer days roaming the woods. Rain or shine I didn't really care, I just preferred being outside. That hasn't changed. The problem is that as a kid you've got plenty of time to play, as an adult, work and other responsibilities don't always allow you much free time. Last night we had a rare evening where both my husband and I managed to have the night off. I'm sure any rational person working 80 hrs a week would say "Awesome, time to relax" and sit around and do nothing all night (and considering my sore muscles I'm thinking maybe that would've been the smarter decision :D ) But we decided instead to drive to the...

Pay Day! by Blueflame4 on Fri May 04, 2012 3:04 pm
I used to love pay day just because that meant it was Friday and I had a whole two days to sleep in and relax. The check itself mattered little to me since it was almost always gone before I cashed it anyway. Since picking up the second full time job things have changed a bit though; those Saturdays of getting out of bed at 10 and "bumming" around all day in my comfiest clothes are just a sweet memory for one. Instead I hear that annoying buzzing of my alarm clock at 4 am telling me it's time to get up and ready for work. But it's also changed for the better because now we have just enough of an extra income to allow for us to more quickly build up our preps.
Today's payday is going toward increasing our food supply and that means I get to clean out the cabinets under the couch and reorganize above the cab so that it can all go up there instead(boy will I be glad when those cabinets over the cab are done and it's not just all one giant pile of crap). But at least that will...
