  • Recycle And Re-use
Recycle means to process old, used items in order that the material can be used to make new products. Examples of things that are often recycled are glass, plastic, newspapers, aluminum cans, used motor oil, and batteries. Here, reduce refers to lessening the amount of items or resources that are consumed, using only the amount that is needed, and looking for alternatives that will lessen our use. And reuse means extending the 'life' or repurposing an item rather than discarding or throwing it away.

floods got us by Anonymous on Mon May 03, 2010 9:48 am
may 1st 2010 jackson TN was devastated bye 12 inches of rain in 16 hours. Alot of my friends and family have lost everything they own. We were fortunate to not have got any damage I luckily live on a hill that dept me out of the water. The one thing I did experience is being totally cut off from going anywhere my road both ways that I live own was under up to 8 ft. of water. and stayed that way for 2 days. If anything bad would have happened to my children medical attention was not coming. Anyway we made it out ok. back to work now. I learned a lesson that I already knew You Must be prepared to take care of yourself and I was. My mother had to come stay with me because the water was shut off to keep the flood water from contaminating the drinking water. She said that if she would have listened to me she would have filled everything up like I told her to when it first started. Whats bad about is I felt good to hear that from her is that bad? I felt like yeah you think I am doing all of this...

My Survival Kit by FreeDumbPhiDrrr on Tue Sep 13, 2011 11:31 am
I guess I'll use this first entry to introduce myself a bit. I'm relatively new to survival, but not a total nub. I've been in my fair share of scenarios but was usually found unprepared but I managed. I now carry an Altoids tin with me all the time as well as a mini first aid kit.

The contents of my tin are as follows:
3ft of electric tape covering the bottom of the tin
4 velcro straps also on the outside
4 rubberbands
a small fishing kit (wrapped in a piece of plastic wrap)
2 pieces of aluminum foil folded and taped to the inside of the lid
1 clean new razor blade stored under the foil
1 piece of paper 8x11
55G tool (made by trim- my dad calls it that- contains a nail file, small blade, and a bottle opener with a flathead tip)
1 small magnifying glass
1 very short pencil w/ more electric tape wrapped around it (just short enough to fit lengthwise in the tin)
1 sewing kit
2 paper clips
tinder (made from cottonballs and vaseline {good for chapped lips as well})
Eyeglass repair kit
1 tiny...

The DIY Pickle-Barrel Compost Tumbler by Bidadisndat on Wed Apr 14, 2010 4:09 am
A Pickle Barrel Tumbler is very easy to put together, and will turn out finished compost just as quickly as units that are around $200 or so, but at a fraction of the price. I assembled one today and took a few photos to show how easily it can be done.

First, it's a good idea to assemble all the materials and tools required, as having everything at hand makes the job easier and faster. (Unfortunately this is something that I have been guilty of not doing many times before, and has often resulted in 30 minute projects taking up to 3 hours to complete.) In this case, not only did I have everything ready, I had also put fresh batteries in the 'old' camera that Chi said I could have, so here we go:

Tips, tricks, and trash talk from a redneck trucker. by goinpostal on Sat Dec 10, 2011 6:10 am
This will be the first in a series of tips, tricks,or trash talk.
If you cant handle misspellings, adult language,or my political beliefs,I dont mind you speaking your mind.
That being said any flamming,or name calling in my blog series will be dealt with harshly,as I will notify Admin..

The first thing I'll cover is an idea posted by someone on another site yesterday.
It's a way to store,or carry small amounts of items like salt, sugar, spices, bleach, soap, hand sanitizer,or even some meds.
It's an idea so simple, and usefull I cant believe I hadnt thought of it before.
You need clear plastic drinking straws,a pair of pliers, and a good heat source.
Take the pliers, and heat the jaws up.Then take the hot pliers and crimp one end of a straw.
Now pour into the straw a small portioned amount of whatever you are sealing, heat the pliers, and crimp the straw above the stuff your sealing.
All thats left is to trim off the excess portion of the straw.
When your ready to use whatever your sealing, just trim...
