Yesterday I poured the footing needed to float the existing and new pads of cement upon. I used the Quikrete website's calculator (and my best calculations of the size of the proposed footing), and it told me that I needed 8 - 80# bags of concrete for the footing. I knew I'd need more soon for when I poured the new pad so I increased my concrete purchase by 50%--I bought 12 bags (80#). Mind you, I live almost 30 miles from the store that sells concrete, and I rented the mixer by the hour. You see where this is going. I ran short on concrete--probably by 3 - 80# bags or more. I'm sure that it is my fault. I've now got to decide if I'm going to bust up the top of the footing and pour more or if I'm going to just poor extra concrete when I pour the pad. The later sounds like a whole lot less work. I've got to think this through.
