I am new to blogging so please bear with me. Our family is desperately trying to sell our real estate and finally get to Alaska where we have yearned to go for 20 years. I fear that sh!t will hit the fan soon and I want my family where we can survive and thrive without outside (or minimal) purchases. I have been called many things throughout my life hippy, prepper, etc. because I have always strived to learn how to get by without modern conveniences. In my single days I lived for 2 years with no electricity and pretty much ate what I could produce on my own so I know while it is work it is well worth the satisfaction of knowing what you consume.
People often ask me what I fear-in a nutshell I have watched our country go from bad to worse in the last 20 years. Our government keeps taking more and more of our freedoms and is sneaking in chemicals into our food source to experiment with our bodies. I don't like being a guinnea pig and I don't like being controlled.
I homeschool my children so I can allow them to learn without the governments propoganda that public school is instilling in them and teach them skills needed to be able to survive come what may. My kids already know how to preserve food, build several types of fires depending on the situation and terrain, are proficient at hunting and are currently learning how to sew, build shelters and our next science project will be distilling water to purify. (if you have any simple distillers made out of readily accessible materials please share). Schooling to me means more than reading, writing and math. I look forward to sharing and gaining knowledge with all.

Hope you can get some good woods for heat, when you get there.
Pretty much all you need in alaska is heat and a roof.
