Basics and my approach....

First and foremost!! I AM NOT AN EXPERT AT ANYTHING!!! I’ve just learned a few things along the way, and one may look at and argue whatever they like, but this is simply as I see things. You are not required to see things like I do in order to read this.
I wasn’t sure what I would put here, so this post will be my first. Being that my background is primarily hunting and Infantry, m preps focus on a more military aspect, but I take from other things as well because that is what SHTFM is all about, gaining and sharing knowledge.
My planning and prepping follows a few facts I personally HAVE to face, and these are the following:
1: Job loss. It’s entirely possible I could lose my job, and so I must make sure to be prepared to ride out the tough times that would be sure to follow while I try to gain another job.
2: Natural Disasters. I live in an earthquake prone area, and have 3 volcanoes not too terribly far away. So it’s important that I am able to leech as little as possible off the...

I'm a dad, a husband, a Citizen of the United States of America, and an old Soldier.
I believe this country is toast, and that it is WE the PEOPLE who are at fault. We've been on autopilot for a very long time, most not paying attention to much of anything, and now because we neglected our country, it will collapse. Politicians are the ones mismanaging things, but it is WE who voted them in. So WE are to blame, here. WE did not hold our elected accountable and in check, so our Elected Elite are now out of control, power hungry, greedy, and taking our rights away daily. WE, as a Nation, have failed ourselves.
I spent 9 years, total, in the Military. 3 years was spent as a ground Surveillence Systems Operator (sorta like an LRRP), and I spent a year as a Cavalry Scout before reclassing to Infantry. In 1998 I deployed to Bosnia, and I was in OIF II in 2004-2005 in SE Baghdad. I've lost a few friends in that war, and it was BECAUSE of that war that I began to wake up and see the world as...
