Sling reviews. Magpul MS2, Viking VTAC

by CalicoJack

Slings are an important part of your gear to consider. A versatile sling improves survivability and comfort in a combat situation. I have used many different kinds of slings over time. I used to run 3 point tac slings on my assault rifles and subguns, but always found that there is way too much webbing in my way getting snagged on equipment and not enough versatility. Enter the modern sling. Today's slings offer versatility, speed of operation, and in some cases multiple configurations from one piece of gear.

The Magpul industries multi mission sling.

Shown here attached to two of my CQB M4's.

Use of this sling requires that you install the Magpul ASAP sling mount. This mount incorporates a steel ring around a steel bar that extends to either side of the rifle to allow access from either side, and ultra fast weapon to support shoulder transitions. The sling mount...

My brothers are sheeple

by CalicoJack

I have two brothers. One is 2 years younger than me and is a veteran of the US Army Military Police corps like me. He has lost all of his fundamentals of shooting and firearms handling since he left the Army about 9 years ago. I can't say that I am suprised, he has not been much of a shooter since leaving the Army. I take him to the range once in a while and he shows a complete lack of understanding where his weapon system is concerned. I on the other hand shoot well and I think this intimidates him and causes him usually to abandon shooting handguns altogether and stick to the rifles, which are easier to shoot. I have told him that this is not a competition, and since I have left the Army I have lent my services as a hired gun, LEO, and conducted research involving weapon systems. In this light, naturally I will shoot well.

In addition to which he does not pay attention to current events. Not only does he not know that there is rioting in Greece, England, France, Ireland, and that they...

Blackheart international Bolt/buffer rebuild kit review

by CalicoJack

Image

Through exhaustive testing and end user operator input, SOCOM/Crane-NSWC created a kit that helps to remedy extraction problems experienced by end users of M4A1 carbines. Most extraction problems have been traced back to the doubling of peak gas port pressure and 20% shorter dwell time on the carbine length gas system over the standard full length gas system on the M16A1/A2 rifles. This causes faster bolt speeds, and more violent extraction. The BHI M4 SOPMOD kit includes all the upgrades of the Crane version with the addition of a rate reducing heavy buffer, and an extreme duty Sprinco buffer spring.

The kit includes:

Extractor (milspec) - This is the most important part of the bolt as related to extraction and ejection.

Gas rings (3) (milspec) - replacement will ensure that gas is reliably trapped in the carrier, and used to operate the bolt carrier at the proper...

Glock GRS review

by CalicoJack

I put Trijicon ghost ring sights on my Glocks. The 2 main reasons are;

1. Glock standard sights are plastic. During one handed immediate action drills, when using a magazine in a vest pouch for slide manipulation these stock plastic sights will get twisted, broken, or deformed. When in a time is life situation this means a very bad day.

2. Ghost rings improve target aquisition for CQB and give a slight advantage in speed, all other things being equal.

Trijicon GRS are steel and can be used to manipulate the weapon in one handed drills with zest and vigor with no fear of destroying them. Since they are Trijicon they also contain tritium gas lamps in both the front sight post and on both sides of the rear ring for target aquisition in low or no light situations.

As you can see they allow the eye to focus through the ring and aquire the front sight pretty quickly....
