Bought some 100s and some 75s today, 4 bulbs for $1.37 @ Wally world.
Update 05/23/11
One of the 75 Watt bulbs quit already. It was a GE bulb. The package says "Assembled in USA" from foreign components. The bulb did not burn out, it just quit. I took it out and examined it. The center electrode was rusty. Thanks, GE.
Ready to Pay $50 for a 100-Watt Bulb?

If the LED's last as long as most LED lights do, and they use less energy than compact flourecents without the Mercury, then this might be a good deal and the cost will eventually come down. Depending on usage, the LED's may never need replacing or very rarely and could sip watts. Good for survival scenarios on generators or solar/wind grid free systems.

Correct, BUT with the economy in it's present condition and unemployment where it's at the vast majority of people can't afford to drop $50 on a light bulb when they're struggling to keep Top Ramen in the pantry.

I managed to get a "deal" on the compact twisty ones...bought about 80 packs (various wattage) of 4 for 97 cents a pack on an instant rebate deal the state was having. Now I don't have to worry about it for the rest of my life...unless a tree falls on the tub I'm storing them in.
On a mountain top in western Mass.
